Modularizing automated testing equipment
August 27 2021
In the August issue of ONdrug Delivery magazine, SHL Medical’s Lucy Chung and Gilbert Fluetsch discuss the benefits of a modular machine platform for autoinjector testing.
Much like how adding modularity to autoinjector platforms can facilitate increased flexibility in autoinjector design and development, the authors argue that incorporating modularity to fully automated testing machines (FATM) can also enable flexibility in final device testing.
Chung and Fluetsch present their argument through a case study of SHL’s latest modular testing machine platform. Built upon SHL’s well-established FATM infrastructure, the machine features flexible mix-and-match testing options that can be adjusted and reused for both syringe-based and cartridge-based autoinjectors of various design features and handling requirements. This complementation ensures that both platform and customized devices can be tested through common machines that feature interchangeable tools and stations corresponding to the device’s characteristics.
