Roger Samuelsson establishes Scandinavian Health Limited (SHL Group), now SHL Medical.
The success of SHL’s first autoinjector project – PenInject 2.25 – inspires Roger to become a world-leading autoinjector solutions provider equipped with full in-house capabilities.
A team of automation experts is recruited to develop assembly and testing equipment for SHL’s injection devices. The team also supports other in-house equipment requests, including for spring and tray formation.
Our automation experts begin development of a semi-automatic testing machine (SATM) for SHL’s first autoinjector project – the DAI® autoinjector. The first of its kind in the self-injection industry, this SATM broke new grounds by introducing automation to autoinjector testing.
SHL’s fully fledged automation capabilities officially become the Automation Systems department, also known as AMSD.
The increased need for high-quality machined parts for assembly and testing machines drives SHL to invest in CNC machining equipment and capabilities.
The commercial launch of SHL’s first DAI® project is assembled and tested with machines designed and built by our automation experts.Â
Â
As one of the world’s first modern autoinjectors, the DAI® autoinjector sets the gold standard for not just the self-injection experience, but also for the development and manufacturing of autoinjectors worldwide.
To further enhance the quality of our products, SHL establishes an in-house tooling center equipped with top-quality equipment, best-in-class machining technologies, and experienced tooling experts from international firms.
Tooling becomes an official department within SHL. In the following years, we would continue to expand our tooling program by introducing hot runner technologies and investing in the best EDM, CNC, and robotic exchange machines and systems.
SHL introduces its first 8-16 higher-cavitation molds with needle valve gating for autoinjector production, resulting in higher production output and improved process stability.
With the mission to cultivate next-generation tooling, CNC, and automation talents, SHL kicks off a local apprentice program with National Taipei University of Technology.
SHL donates a CNC machine to the Taipei Municipal Muzha Vocational High School, giving students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with top-tier machines before entering the workforce.
SHL begins the development of JOHO manual testing machine (MTM), a highly versatile equipment platform for autoinjector testing.
Â
With the ability to operate independently or with commercially available force testers, the platform would help set the standard for autoinjector testing systems within SHL and worldwide.Â
SHL’s first fully automated assembly machine (FAAM) begins commercial production for a cartridge-based autoinjector built with SHL’s Needle Isolation Technology (NIT®).
SHL’s first SMART (Semi-Modular Automatic Robot Track), a highly dynamic fully automated assembly machine, begins commercial production for an autoinjector based on SHL Medical’s Molly® technology.
In the same year that SHL’s modular fully automated testing machine (FATM) platform makes its commercial debut, it is shortlisted for the 2022 CPHI Pharma Awards in the Manufacturing, Technology, and Equipment category.
SHL Medical acquires Swiss automation company LCA Automation and US toolmaker Superior Tooling to support the growing demand for autoinjector production in Europe and the US.
Several high-cavitation molds of up to 48 cavities are shipped to SHL Medical’s new US site in North Charleston, South Carolina to support the scaled-up production of a Molly®-based autoinjector commercialized for the treatment of cardio metabolic diseases.
SHL’s first fully automated high-speed assembly machine from our Oval Track platform begins commercial production for the Molly®-based autoinjector used for cardiometabolic diseases.
SHL Medical acquires Swiss-based SMC Mould Innovation, a renowned developer and manufacturer of high-performance plastic injection molds. Founded in 1925, SMC Mould Innovation is one of the oldest mold makers in the world and is considered a leader in the Swiss plastics industry.
SHL Advantec is officially launched as a dedicated advanced manufacturing equipment provider for medical devices and other highly demanding applications. SHL Medical’s Tooling and Automation departments are carved out as independent companies and join LCA Automation, SMC Mould Innovation, and Superior Tooling in becoming part of SHL Advantec.
